Yeah, and I'm not even sure how to prevent this. One way (that doesn't help you since you live far away) is to pick the camera up early in the day and bring batteries and an SD card and test it right there. If it doesn't work, demand an immediate fix while you wait. The only problem is that some problems only crop up after longer use or after uploading images to your computer.
